We are based in Norwood, Massachusetts, which is comfortably within the Boston metropolitan area. HMF's facilities include a state-of-the-art plant, and R&D facility, as well as warehouse and Corporate functions.  We are focused on continued growth and are executing against various initiatives that include additional product lines, new sales channels, greater penetration of our extensive customer relationships, as well as opportunistic acquisitions.  Our success is directly dependent on attracting and retaining the best possible talent across our functions.  To this end, we are posting for a strong Corporate Controller. 

 

OVERVIEW OF ROLE

The Corporate Controller will be a key member of the Finance leadership team, reporting directly to the CFO and will also be a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). The ideal candidate will be primarily responsible for all corporate accounting, payroll, treasury, tax, legal, and risk management functions, including organizational analyses, and protecting Company assets.  As a part of the Finance leadership team, she or he will be involved in determining the strategy for the Finance function, including preparation of a three-year rolling financial plan, and all acquisition and investment related Finance activity.

 

The individual in this role will work closely with other SLT members and their staff, Procurement, Sales and Marketing Operations and Human Resources to ensure accurate reporting and timely Accounts Payables and Accounts Receivables.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Protect assets by establishing, monitoring and enforcing internal controls.
  • Maintain strong banking relationships in processing of cash flow, debt servicing, and standard banking documentation requirements, as well as periodic refinancing and capital leasing opportunities to fund key initiatives and projects.
  • Guide in the execution of the corporate strategy within Finance, including critically important acquisition process working with investment bankers and outside accountants on due diligence, deal negotiations, and transition.
  • Involved in seed investment strategy, including tracking and controlling current and future investments.
  • Responsible for risk mitigation strategy, including legal matters, working closely with outside counsel and maintaining industry leading insurance protection through outside agencies and providers.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures related to corporate transactions based on up to date regulatory compliance, industry developments, and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Oversee administration of payroll and benefit accounting, including 401k, bonuses, sales commissions, and executive compensation programs.
  • Comply with federal, state and local legal requirements by studying existing and emerging legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; advising management on needed actions.
  • Responsible for financial audits as well as periodic tax audits, and for strategically optimizing taxation.
  • Administer and maintain corporate accounting including general ledger, month end close process, intercompany accounting, and preparing for year-end audit.
  • Recruit, manage, train, develop, and motivate large team of analysts, accountants and specialists processing corporate accounting, payroll, and treasury functions on a daily basis.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops; reviewing professional publications, establishing professional networks, participating in professional societies.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a CPA; in addition, an MBA or a Masters in Accounting or Finance is highly desired
  • Minimum ten years of accounting experience, plus comprehensive knowledge of ERP and automated accounting systems.
  • Demonstrated organizational and management skills and ability to work in a fast-paced High Performing Team environment.
