We are based in Norwood, Massachusetts, which is comfortably within the Boston metropolitan area. HMF's facilities include a state-of-the-art plant, and R&D facility, as well as warehouse and Corporate functions.  We are focused on continued growth and are executing against various initiatives that include additional product lines, new sales channels, greater penetration of our extensive customer relationships, as well as opportunistic acquisitions.  Our success is directly dependent on attracting and retaining the best possible talent across our functions.  To this end, we are posting for a strong EHS Manager.

 

 

OVERVIEW OF ROLE

The EHS Manager is expected to be a change leader to drive safety and compliance adherence throughout manufacturing facility. The EHS Manager is responsible for managing activities for the Safety Technicians, including assigning safety training and inspections. The EHS Manager is also responsible for assuring the housekeeping expectations in both the manufacturing space and office space are being followed. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitors Company compliance with Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs
  • Serves as technical advisor and consultant to internal personnel on EHS matters of concern
  • Directly supervises on-shift Safety Technicians
  • Creates work assignments and schedules for employees on assigned shifts
  • Participates in interviewing, hiring, performance reviews and termination processes
  • Develops and updates existing EHS policies and procedures
  • Oversees aspects of air permit compliance monitoring, documentation and reporting
  • Communicates cross-departmentally as needed
  • Conducts inspections; monitors and calibrates equipment
  • Works with EHS Specialist to backfill Safety Technician outages
  • Oversees coordination of recycling initiatives and supply inventories, coordinates with vendors to assure uninterrupted services, maintains tracking systems and submits reports to internal colleagues on monthly basis
  • Acts as a member of the EHS emergency response team
  • Role models high performance team behaviors
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors of Science degree in environmental, health and safety, biology, chemistry or related field or at least 5 years of related experience
  • Some food industry knowledge; meat industry preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite of products
  • Must be able to work different shifts and weekends as needed
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to work in a fast-paced environment while multi-tasking priorities
  • Must be able to participate in a company lock out, tag out program, as well as a respiratory protection program
  • Must be able to serve in an on-call capacity
  • Must be first aid and CPR trained

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Must be able to withstand working in a cold environment and standing for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to climb ladders, lift, push, pull and carry weights of up to 35lbs
  • Must possess fine motor skills when working with sensitive monitoring equipment
  • Vision must be correctable to 20/20
