We are based in Norwood, Massachusetts, which is comfortably within the Boston metropolitan area. HMF's facilities include a state-of-the-art plant, and R&D facility, as well as warehouse and Corporate functions.  We are focused on continued growth and are executing against various initiatives that include additional product lines, new sales channels, greater penetration of our extensive customer relationships, as well as opportunistic acquisitions.  Our success is directly dependent on attracting and retaining the best possible talent across our functions.  To this end, we are posting for a strong Benefits and Compliance Specialist. 

 

 

OVERVIEW OF ROLE

The Benefits and Compliance Specialist will be an important team member of the Home Market Foods HR team.  The individual in this role will primarily focus to working with the Benefits and Compliance Manager in ensuring that all benefits and compliance related documentation and activities are completed on time and accurately.  This would also include updating and maintaining the policies and procedures, as established by the team.

 

This role will work with the VP of HR on special projects.  Some examples include:  lead the quarterly Engagement Survey process, analyze data that drive the people metrics for HMF (e.g. talent acquisition and attrition metrics, engagement through surveys and focus group results), research various projects and provide proposals to drive our people agenda.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with employees and internal partners to administer health and benefits plans including:
    • Administer benefits through ADP, along with carrier connection verification and reconciliation
    • Provide support to all employees with benefits questions, enrollment provisions and claims resolution
    • Assist with annual open enrollment processes and co-lead open enrollment meetings
    • Coordinate benefit billing with the finance team
    • Maintain employee information in our 401K plan
    • Manage the COBRA program
    • Assist in definition and implementation of Health Management/Wellness program

 

  • Act as a primary point of contact for employees with benefits and general HR questions
  • Administer FMLA and other leaves of absence
  • Conduct research on policy, legal updates and benefit trends and make recommendations
  • Update and maintain employee handbook
  • Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations as updates are introduced
  • Conduct in-house HR audits to ensure compliance
  • Maintain personnel files in compliance with applicable legal requirements
  • Process new hires and terminations
  • Maintain company organization charts
  • Manage employee discount programs
  • Administer tuition reimbursement program
  • Provide administrative help as needed, including filing, scheduling meetings, ordering office supplies, sending FedEx packages, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Fluency in Portuguese is required
  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • Professional in HR certification preferred
  • At least two years of experience working in a HR team would be preferred
  • General knowledge of benefits, HR processes and compliance.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential
  • Strong MS Office skills
  • Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now is a plus
