We are based in Norwood, Massachusetts, which is comfortably within the Boston metropolitan area. HMF's facilities include a state-of-the-art plant, and R&D facility, as well as warehouse and Corporate functions.  We are focused on continued growth and are executing against various initiatives that include additional product lines, new sales channels, greater penetration of our extensive customer relationships, as well as opportunistic acquisitions.  Our success is directly dependent on attracting and retaining the best possible talent across our functions.  To this end, we are posting for a strong Demand Planner. 



The Demand Planner is a critical role for HMF (Home Markets Foods) to accurately produce its portfolio of food products. This role creates and maintains item / national forecast models for all of Home Market Foods, incorporating business intelligence and historical forecast information gathered from sales, marketing, finance, retailer replenishment analysts, and other sources (i.e. IRI or other syndicated consumer data). The Demand Planner's duties include planning inventory outbound flow, analyzing statistical data, and generating forecasting solutions to be used by supply planning.



  • Create, nurture and develop an effective model-based demand planning process and series of tools for HMF
  • Develop demand forecasts (operational forecasts) at multiple levels of aggregation (national, customer, channel) for multiple time horizons as part of a demand planning function
  • Attend Step 2 in the IBP (Integrated Business Planning) or S&OP process to evaluate field and marketing forecasts
  • Review historical sales trends, research demand drivers, prepare forecast data, develop statistical forecast models, and evaluate forecast results through industry standard KPI's (MAPE, Bias)
  • Coordinate cross-functional research activities to reconcile significant variances and refine the forecast model to reflect updated sales and marketing assumptions
  • Utilize a collaborative and consensus approach by working with sales, marketing and customer finance to obtain and ensure that current and accurate information is used for demand forecasts
  • Identify and implement a future demand planning software as the primary forecasting tool
  • Provide input to supply planning and marketing in developing inventory strategies on existing items, new products, and product phase-outs
  • Closely coordinate and communicate customer action plans through sales development team with supply planning
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years of experience in demand planning roles
  • Ability to directly influence others and drive for results
  • Advanced Excel skills and advanced use of business demand planning systems
  • Self-motivated and ability to "think on your feet" when working and a "can do" approach to work
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills
  • Exceptional decision-making and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
